As the Ghana–Nebraska Agricultural Partnership continues to gain momentum, Day Three of the high-level visit by former Nebraska State Senator Ken Schilz and Justin Wayne focused on building strategic collaborations with key institutions whose mandates align with the long-term vision of transforming Ghana’s agricultural sector.
The delegation held separate engagements with the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat, the Tree Crops Development Authority (TCDA), and the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), exploring opportunities for partnership, investment, value addition, and sustainable agribusiness growth.
At the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat, discussions centered on how the proposed livestock processing plant and other agribusiness investments under the Ghana–Nebraska partnership could contribute to the government’s vision of creating a productive, round-the-clock economy. Both parties examined opportunities to establish integrated agricultural value chains that support continuous production, processing, storage, distribution, and export activities, while creating sustainable employment opportunities for Ghanaian youth and rural communities.
The engagement with the Tree Crops Development Authority highlighted the importance of diversification and value addition within Ghana’s agricultural sector. Discussions explored potential synergies for the tree crops industry, particularly in areas such as feed production, agro-processing, research, quality seed and crop development, and sustainable agricultural practices. The parties also discussed opportunities for technology transfer, investment promotion, and strengthening agricultural value chains to improve productivity and competitiveness.
The delegation’s meeting with the Association of Ghana Industries focused on unlocking private-sector participation in the implementation of the Ghana–Nebraska Agricultural Cooperation Agreement in the areas of agribusiness and industrialization. As Ghana’s foremost industry advocacy and business support organization, AGI plays a critical role in promoting industrial development, investment, and enterprise growth. Discussions centered on creating partnerships between Ghanaian businesses and Nebraska-based investors, encouraging technology exchange, developing agro-processing industries, and expanding market opportunities for locally produced agricultural products.
The delegation also engaged the Ghana National Farmers and Fishermen Association to discuss areas worth strengthening out of possible collaboration to create more value for farmers and fishermen through the integration of modern equipment and technology that could help in advancing the phase of Ghanaian farming and fishing practices to creating opportunities for the youth.
These strategic engagements underscore the broader vision behind the Ghana–Nebraska Agricultural Partnership of moving beyond traditional agricultural cooperation to build a comprehensive ecosystem that integrates production, processing, industrialization, investment, and trade.
With plans underway to establish a modern livestock processing plant in Ghana, the partnership continues to position itself as a catalyst for agricultural transformation, food security, job creation, and economic growth. The ongoing stakeholder consultations demonstrate a shared commitment by both Ghanaian and Nebraska partners to develop innovative, market-driven solutions that will strengthen Ghana’s agricultural sector and create lasting economic opportunities for future generations.
