Agrihouse Foundation has over the past weeks been engaging potential farmers in the 1household, 1garden trainees’ session with 12 Agric extension officers from 6(six) different districts in the Northern part of Ghana.
These districts included Nanton, Yendi, Karaga, Mion, Gushegu, Sagnerigu where 600 women farmers and Persons with Disabilities were taught how to establish household gardens and organic compost preparation.
The intensive weeks training of transplanting media, pest and disease management, garden set up and maintenance, transplanting came with donation of free gardening starter packs, neem pesticides, 11 vegetable seeds, organic composts, fencing materials and watering cans to aid the boosting of livelihood in their various homes.
Over 100 beneficiaries also, male and female farmers from the Karaga town, have worn huge smiles as the Agric delivery team distributed a set of gardening materials to help them setup backyard gardens for proper nutrition, food security and bolster development.
Though the project looks forward to triggering the interests of more women into the agricultural sector, men farmers were spotted as part of beneficiaries in the Karaga/Tamalgu town, Yendi Municipal, Mion, Gushegu, Sagnerigu, Nanton Districts.12 agricultural extension officers backed by the Agrihouse Foundation, made sure that all and sundry were well equipped with tools after they have been intensively trained.
The Agrihouse Foundation-birthed project with support from the USAID and AGRA Ghana, 1household, 1garden, has successfully carried out its 2nd phase of exercise in the Northern region and looks forward to training and supporting 2000 households within 17 districts to setup their household gardens.
The agenda of the initiative seeks to revive the interests of sustainable home-garden development whiles contributing to improve household nutrition, having enough to harvest and sell and ensure food security.
