President Nana Akufo-Addo advocates for practical strategies over rhetoric at the second edition of the Africa Prosperity Dialogues 2024, held at the Peduase Lodge in the Eastern Region. Addressing the audience, he stressed the need for discussions to extend beyond mere dialogue, focusing on concrete strategies for transformative change in Africa.
The President urged comprehensive dialogues that critically examine the responsibilities of both the private and governmental sectors. He emphasized the importance of representation from all sectors necessary for prosperity, ensuring sustainable growth targets are achieved despite future global challenges.
Highlighting the importance of sustainable farming practices, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the need for targeted investment and infrastructure in innovation and technology, especially in agribusiness and industry. He underscored the importance of building resilience in the agriculture sector to face global challenges and climate change.
Expressing optimism about the readiness of Africa’s private sector to contribute to the dream of a united Africa, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the need for efficient transport and logistics infrastructure to unlock the full potential of trade for prosperity.
He called for expedited trade processes, cross-border transactions without reliance on foreign currencies, and the facilitation of free movement of people, products, and services as outlined in the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA).
Applauding the Africa Prosperity Dialogues, the President commended the initiative for promoting understanding, dialogue, and commitment to AFCFTA goals. He acknowledged the efforts of the organizers in bringing together high-profile resource persons and stakeholders, emphasizing the need for collective support.
Former President of Mozambique, Mr. Joaquim Alberto Chissano, highlighted the necessity for Africa’s leaders to unite in addressing development challenges hindering the continent’s growth. Mr. Njack Kane, acting CEO of the Africa Prosperity Network Secretariat, outlined the program’s strategic objectives, including facilitating comprehensive dialogue, promoting regional integration, prioritizing inclusiveness, and providing a platform for sharing best practices.
The summit, themed “Delivering Prosperity in Africa; Produce, Add Value, Trade,” will feature thematic roundtable discussions, high-level sessions, and a Presidential Gala Dinner, culminating in a High-level Presidential Dialogue session. Mr. Wamkele Mene, the Secretary-General of AFCFTA, encouraged private businesses to leverage the opportunities offered under the initiative for business expansion. The three-day program aims to address key issues hindering Africa’s progress and chart a course towards a more prosperous and inclusive future.
