Farmers in the Bono East Region and across Ghana have been urged to embrace modern and innovative farming techniques to boost their yields and strengthen the country’s food security.
This call was made by the Executive Director of Agrihouse Foundation, Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa, during the closing ceremony of the second edition of the 2nd Ghana Agrochemical Crop Protection Exhibition.
The two-day event, organized by Agrihouse Foundation at the Techiman Community Center, provided farmers with valuable knowledge and resources ahead of the upcoming farming season. One of the major highlights was the Farm Clinic, which offered practical training in areas such as seed sowing techniques, effective fertilizer application, pesticide and weedicide usage, soil management, and modern crop protection strategies.
The exhibition also addressed critical challenges faced by farmers, including limited access to essential inputs such as fertilizers, improved seeds, and agrochemicals, as well as the need for education on best agricultural practices. Over 400 farmers participated, gaining firsthand knowledge from industry experts and engaging with input dealers to purchase agricultural supplies at competitive prices
Farmers who attended the event expressed their appreciation for the initiative, describing it as a transformative experience. One farmer shared, “Before this event, we faced many issues with crop diseases, improper fertilizer use, and post-harvest losses. But now, we have acquired innovative solutions that will significantly enhance our productivity. Additionally, the affordable input prices have been a great relief.”

some also commended Agrihouse Foundation’s dedication, saying, “Last year, they promised to bring this event back, and they delivered. This program has been an eye-opener, teaching us how to improve our yields, manage pests and diseases, and adopt efficient farming methods.”
Recognizing the impact of technological advancements in agriculture, another participant emphasized, “Farming is evolving with technology, and it is important to stay informed about modern techniques. This event has been instrumental in helping us understand proper fertilizer and pesticide applications, which are crucial for sustainable farming.”
Addressing the gathering, Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa reiterated the importance of adopting innovative agricultural practices to ensure food security and economic growth. “One of the biggest challenges facing farmers is access to essential inputs like fertilizers, quality seeds, and agrochemicals. Additionally, knowledge on best farming practices is often limited. As agriculture continues to evolve, it is critical for farmers to embrace new ideas that will enhance their productivity and contribute to national food security,” she stated.
She also acknowledged the contributions of over 20 exhibitors who participated in the event, highlighting their role in providing practical solutions to farmers. “Our exhibitors have been integral to the success of this program. Beyond showcasing their products, they engaged in meaningful discussions with farmers, fostering knowledge-sharing and collaboration to strengthen the agricultural sector.”
Furthermore, she noted that the Ghana Agrochemical Crop Protection Exhibition is not only about supporting farmers but also creating job opportunities for young people interested in the agricultural value chain. “Through partnerships with input dealers, Agrihouse Foundation is committed to empowering young people to establish input supply businesses in their communities. This initiative will not only facilitate easier access to farm inputs but also generate employment opportunities for the youth,” she added.
The event concluded with renewed enthusiasm among farmers, many of whom pledged to implement the knowledge gained to enhance their farming operations. Agrihouse Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Ghana’s agricultural sector through continued training, exhibitions, and innovative initiatives aimed at empowering farmers and agribusiness entrepreneurs.
