Agrihouse Foundation is set to launch the fifth edition of the Women in Food and Leadership Training Forum (WOFAGRIC) and the Gold in the Soil Awards, Tomorrow, Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at the Agric Directorate in the Eastern Region.
Executive Director of Agrihouse Foundation, Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa, in a press statement, said, the launch will explore the rationale behind this year’s theme, “overcoming barriers to agribusiness women development – the role of stakeholders.”
The launch will equally highlight outlined activities expected to take place at this year’s two-day event and make room for the planning committee to share key strategies and policy directions this year’s event will highlight.
Initiated five (5) years ago, WOFAGRIC, annually, creates a platform for Ghanaian women in agriculture to receive expert knowledge from resources persons, and exchange ideas, build networks, and empower one another. About two thousand (2000) women in agriculture, in selected regions in the country have benefitted from soft skills, competence-based training sessions, mentorship, business plan development coaching, farm management skills, record keeping, and presentations on the latest trends, outlooks, and innovations in agriculture.
The Gold in the Soil Awards has in the last four years, has recognized and awarded about seventy-five (75) women in agriculture, including twenty (20) with physical disabilities, who are thriving as farmers, processors, marketers, women into transport, packaging, Technology, input dealers, among others. The women-focused awards ceremony, which moves across regions, celebrates women in agriculture, who are pioneers and trailblazers, pushing the boundaries along the value chain.
Speaking at tomorrow’s launch event are the Madam Hajia Habiba, Regional Director of Agriculture, Dr. Comfort Acheampong, Coordinator, for the Ghana National Egg Campaign Secretariat, Hon. Agyei Boateng, MP for New Juaben North, and Madam Candace Holt, Second Secretary (Development), Global Affairs Canada.
Also present will be leaders and members of women farm groups in the Eastern region, heads of agric departments, agribusiness leaders, Processors, Traders, Input suppliers, equipment manufacturers, feed suppliers, and value chain actors, among others.
