Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Member of Parliament for the Korle Klottey Constituency and Patron of the Gathering of the Royals, has reiterated the urgent need for a collaborative and strategic approach to empowering women, particularly in the agricultural sector.
Speaking at the 7th Gathering of the Royals and the Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings Legacy Honours, organized by Agrihouse Foundation, Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings emphasized the critical role of women in driving agricultural transformation and economic growth.
She urged queen mothers to strengthen their networks, foster collaboration, and leverage their influence to support women-led agribusinesses and rural enterprises.
“I stand before you not just as a representative, but as an advocate committed to championing your needs in Parliament,” she stated. “Share your concerns with me, and I will ensure they are heard at the highest levels of governance.”
She highlighted the systemic barriers that continue to hinder women’s full participation in agribusiness, including limited access to land, credit, technology, and market linkages. She stressed that overcoming these challenges requires a unified effort from policymakers, traditional authorities, financial institutions, and private-sector stakeholders.
Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings reaffirmed her commitment to advocating for policies that support women farmers and agripreneurs. She called for increased investment in rural women’s enterprises and the implementation of programs that enhance their capacity to scale up their businesses and contribute meaningfully to national development.
With heightened advocacy and sustained stakeholder engagement, Ghana’s agricultural sector is poised for greater inclusivity, ensuring that women receive the recognition, support, and resources needed to thrive as key drivers of food security and economic resilience. She added.
The Gathering of the Royals, an annual initiative by Agrihouse Foundation, serves as a vital platform for dialogue between traditional leaders, policymakers, and industry players, driving actionable strategies for gender inclusivity in agriculture. This year’s edition was particularly significant, as it also honored the legacy of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, a trailblazer in women’s empowerment and leadership.
The 7th Gathering Of The Royals And Thenana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings Legacy Awards Brought Together Over A Thousand Participants, Including 300 Queen Mothers From Across The Sixteen Regions Of Ghana, Two Hundred And Sixty-Five Women Farmers And Farm Associations, And Seventy Women Agri-Processors. Dignitaries From Various Sectors, Such As Development Partners, Government Agencies, Private Institutions, Academia, Research Associations, And Civil Society Organizations, Also Participated.
