Seven out of ten Ghanaians are extremely concerned about growing food prices and the rising cost of living, according to a new survey conducted by the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA).
The findings of the survey which were released in a press release on February 11, 2026 show that 71% of respondents expressed profound concern over the cost of food and other consumer items.
The IEA said the survey was conducted nationwide to assess public opinion on President John Mahama’s job performance and the prevailing socioeconomic pressures, including the cost of food, consumer goods, and unemployment.
The poll which sampled the views of over 1,000 people across all regions of Ghana was conducted in December 2025.
46% of respondents identify unemployment as the most pressing national issue, making joblessness the most frequently mentioned concern. This highlights the central role of employment in public perceptions of national well-being.
The second most cited challenge, mentioned by 30% of respondents, is illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.
