Mr. Tanko Bagbara, the Public Relations Officer for the Ministry of Food and Agriculture. Speaking at the  International Youth Day celebration  organized by the World Food Forum (WFF) Ghana Chapter at the  Accra Academy Senior High School, urged the student to take an active role in transforming the country’s agriculture sector.

Addressing the students, Mr. Bagbara emphasized the urgency of eradicating hunger and poverty by 2030, stressing that achieving this ambitious goal requires the full participation of the younger generation. “The task before us is immense,” he said. “We must eradicate hunger and poverty, and to do so, we need every young person to contribute their energy, creativity, and passion to developing our agricultural sector.”

According to him, the future of Ghana’s food systems depends on the youth embracing agriculture as a vital and dynamic field. “We are not just talking about traditional farming,” he explained. “We are talking about the application of modern technologies, innovative practices, and entrepreneurial thinking to create a resilient and sustainable agricultural sector that can feed our nation and beyond.”

Mr. Bagbara reinforced the importance of the youth’s role in achieving Ghana’s agricultural goals: “The future of our nation’s food security is in your hands. Together, we can build a thriving agricultural sector that not only meets our needs but also sets a benchmark for others to follow. “He concluded

The event, held under the theme “The Role of Ghanaian Students in Sustaining Agri-Food Systems,” sought to inspire and equip the next generation with the knowledge and tools necessary to drive agricultural innovation and sustainability. By highlighting the diverse career opportunities within the agricultural sector, the WFF Ghana Chapter aimed to demonstrate that agriculture is not just about farming, but about leading the way in ensuring food security, environmental stewardship, and economic prosperity.

the students were engaged in discussions, youth dialogue and mentorship sessions designed to deepen their understanding of the challenges and opportunities within the agricultural sector. They were encouraged to see themselves as future leaders who can make a significant impact by applying their skills in science, technology, business, and more to the world of agriculture.

The WFF Ghana Chapter’s International Youth Day celebration served as a powerful reminder of the potential that lies within Ghana’s youth to drive change in the agricultural sector. By harnessing their innovative capacities and providing them with the right tools and knowledge, the forum aimed to cultivate a new generation of leaders committed to sustainability and food security.
