The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has announced plans to revoke the licences of fifty (50) large-scale mining companies following the identification of various regulatory breaches.
The decision follows a comprehensive review of large-scale mining operations currently being undertaken by a special committee established for that purpose.
According to the Ministry, the review exercise is aimed at assessing compliance with regulatory, operational and environmental standards governing large-scale mining activities in the country.
At the direction of the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the committee is expected to announce the final list of affected companies in due course.
The Ministry said the impending licence revocations form part of the government’s broader efforts to sanitise the mining sector and promote safe, responsible and sustainable mining practices.
It noted that the review is also intended to ensure that mining operations at all levels adhere strictly to approved protocols, regulatory requirements and due processes.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening oversight within the extractive sector, stressing that regulatory compliance remains a key pillar of government’s vision for a well-regulated and environmentally responsible mining industry.
