The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has orchestrated an exhibition along the Accra Kingsway, stretching from the Cocoa House, showcasing a plethora of cocoa brands and processors as part of this year’s National Chocolate Week festivities. The exhibition aims to offer cocoa processors a platform to display their products and bolster cocoa consumption.
Among the cocoa brands participating are Allsave Chocolate Enterprise, Prime Cocoa Products Ltd, Alpha Industries Ltd (Top Choco), and Fairafric Ghana Ltd, among others.
Deputy Public Affairs Manager of COCOBOD, Benjamin Larweh, elucidated the purpose of the exhibition, citing its objective to highlight the value added to Ghanaian cocoa and celebrate Chocolate Day, an integral part of Valentine’s Day festivities. Larweh emphasized the health benefits of cocoa consumption and aimed to encourage its uptake among the populace.
Besides product showcases, Larweh noted the exhibition’s aim to showcase the multifaceted uses of cocoa, including recipes, spices, and soaps. It serves as a means to raise awareness among the public, including market women and traders along the Nkrumah Circle-Accra route, promoting cocoa consumption and positioning Ghana as a cocoa tourism hub.
Collaborating with local cocoa processors, Cocoa House provides a platform for these businesses to showcase their products. Larweh underscored COCOBOD’s significant role in supporting cocoa industry growth and regulating cocoa-related activities, including offering a 20% discount on light beans to local processors to make cocoa processing more accessible and affordable.
Moreover, Larweh highlighted the exhibition’s potential to stimulate competition among chocolate brands, driving down prices and making chocolate products more affordable to consumers compared to regular market rates.
The exhibition opens the commencement of National Chocolate Week celebrations, reinforcing Ghana’s rich cocoa heritage and its prominence in the global cocoa industry.
