OCP Africa (Ghana), has presented forty bags of fertilizers to agri-students who participated in this year’s 4th Agricultural Students’ Career Guidance Mentorship Dialogue and Bootcamp (AG-STUD-AFRICA), organized by Agrihouse Foundation in April.
The presentation is part of a pledge the company made to the students at the 5-day Bootcamp, which annually, seeks to empower the Ghanaian youth in practical ways that feed into the country’s agricultural objective of achieving food security, while providing sustainable employment.
This year, the theme of the event was, “We have Enabled and Established the Agri-youth! Time to Scale-Up them-Up to Feed Ghana.”
At the brief presentation ceremony yesterday, at the forecourt of Agrihouse Foundation, the Country Manager of OCP Ghana, Mr. Samuel Oduro-Asare, commended the agri-students for gradually translating their business ideas into winning agribusiness modules.
He said such empirical evidences and impacts continue to motivate OCP to increasingly provide capacity-building and technical support to Ghana’s agri-youth.
“At OCP Africa, we believe in the potentials of our agri-youth, and that is why we continue to provide as many as possible with free agronomist services, soil testing and tailor made activities that will help you to develop your agricultural ideas,” he stressed.

Thus, as part of the pledge OCP Africa (Ghana) has promised to also provide the students with mentorship, agronomic services, and soil testing services at no cost. He said OCP would be developing a farm at Daamongo Agricultural College to serve as a model farm for the students.
“Our general Agronomist and the rest of the team is available to support all of you. So call us,” he assured the section of students who were present at the ceremony.
For his part, OCP Ghana’s General Agronomist, Mr. Richmond Dogbe, said the fertilizers provided are MPK fertilizers 11.22.21, with sulfate, zinc and Boron.
He noted that, it is the best multipurpose formula on the Ghanaian market currently, and when used rightly, it will help crops such as cereals, maize, rice, pineapples, and vegetable and tree crops, yield maximum results.

He therefore urged the students to always take note of the 4R Solution when applying fertilizers; thus, ensure their fertilizer is from the right sources, used at the right rate and right time, and applied rightly in the soil.
Receiving the bags of fertilizers on behalf of her colleagues, Dawudo Rafayatu from Damango Agric College thanked OCP Africa for the support and promised to make good use of the fertilizers they have been given.
For her part, the Executive Director of Agrihouse Foundation, Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa, noted that the fertilizers and technical supports will go long way to ensure transformative and futuristic impacts in the lives of the young agripreneurs.
She said AG-STUD Africa Bootcamp would annually continue to bring together agricultural students, beginner agribusinesses and start-ups to help them appreciate the pivotal role they are expected to play, in building resilience and preparedness towards sustaining the food security of the nation through creative and innovative agriculture.
On behalf of Agrihouse Foundation and the students, she expressed her gratitude to OCP Africa for the financial and technical support AG-STUD has received throughout the years, and expressed the hope the relationship will continue to be sustained.

This year, the Bootcamp was on theme, “We have Enabled and Established the Agri-youth! Time to Scale-Up them-Up to Feed Ghana,” a call on corporate institutions, development partners, Government and stakeholders to join hands with Agrihouse Foundation, to support in scaling-up Agri-businesses that have been established by young Ghanaians working in the agricultural sector, whiles supporting other promising youth to identify and build career paths within the value chain.
The 5-day bootcamp was generously supported by organizations including, OCP Africa, Agricultrural Development Bank, Co-operative Development Foundation of Canada (CDF-Canada), 4r Solution, Soya Beans Meal, Nanam, B-Diet, ADDFRA, Holland Akokor, New Okaff Industries, Kovi, My Barnes, Africa Business Bureau (abb) and IWAD.
The Bootcamp hosted students from sixteen agricultural institutions in the country, including Kwadaso Agric College, Ohawo Agric College, Fair River Farm Institute, Damango Agric College, Ejura Agric College, Methodist University, Northern Hub, KNUST, All Nations University, University of Ghana, Central University, UCC, Gh media, Christian College University and Adidome Farm Institute.
