Mr. John Kwadwo Gyapong, the Oti Regional Minister, has announced a major development initiative, revealing that the government has allocated 24,200 hectares of irrigation farms to two districts in the Oti Region.
He said the investment is expected to transform agriculture in the region, enhancing crop production, improving food security, and boosting the local economy.
Mr. Gyapong told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that, Bumbula and Kwami-Krom in the Biakoye District will benefit from 20,200 hectares of irrigation farms while, 4,000 hectares of land have been secured for the irrigation projects in the Krachi East Municipality, spanning from Pai Katanga to Dormabin.
He made these remarks during an engagement with the Oti Regional House of Chiefs to discuss key development initiatives aimed at improving the region’s chieftaincy issues.
The minister assured the Regional House of Chiefs that the government will make water available to farmers to irrigate their crops.
He however revealed that the projects are expected to commence in May 2025, bringing hope to farmers and residents in the region.
Nana Odam-Gyamfi, president of Akroso Traditional Council in the Krachi East Municipality, commended the Oti Regional for bringing chiefs together.
He further said the gesture was seen as a step towards promoting unity among the chiefs and expressed hope that this unity will yield positive outcomes for the region.
