The Northern Regional Chapter of Activista Ghana, In collaboration with the Savannah Women Integrated Development Agency (SWIDA-GH) organized a two-day workshop aimed at enhancing the capacity of selected community champions in climate change adaptation and mitigating factors in Tamale.
The workshop also aimed to introduce participants to local and international guidelines and key concepts on climate change, empowering youth to advocate for the protection of lands and water bodies in their communities.
Funded by the Embassy of Denmark in Ghana, the workshop was part of the “Building Bridges: Empowering Youth as Green Champions for Climate Resilience in Northern Ghana” project targeting approximately 25 youth groups in the region. Participants included leaders from youth advocacy organizations in Tamale, Sagnarigu, and Savelugu Municipalities.
During the workshop, Mr. Oseni Kabiru, the Project Lead for “Building Bridges,” emphasized the importance of empowering participants to actively engage in preserving natural resources in their communities. He urged young people to persist in their efforts to address climate change, citing its significant impact on their well-being.
Mr. Abdul-Mumin Yussif, a Member of the United Force for Development and Climate Reality Fellow, provided insights into national and international frameworks on climate change, encouraging youth to leverage existing policies to raise awareness about climate issues. He advocated for the use of renewable energy to reduce carbon emissions and air pollution.
Mr. Issahaku Abdul-Latif, the Northern Regional Coordinator of Activista Ghana, stressed the importance of a unified voice among young people to advocate for the effective implementation of environmental policies and programs.
