Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Chamber of Agribusiness Ghana (CAG), Mr. Anthony Morrison has urged farmers to utilise waste on their farms as it forms part of smart farming.
Speaking at the AgriTech edition of the Africa Digital Dialogue on Friday, November 21, 2025, Mr. Morrison indicated that Ghanaian farmers often leave the waste on their farms unattended to, regarding it as “just a waste” that is not important for anything.
According to Mr. Morrison, the waste on the farm could be turned to something beneficial. He emphasised that in countries where there are large scale farming, an ecosystem has been developed that reuses waste. “The importance is that it has created a 360 ecosystem where the waste from the livestock is feeding the crops and waste from the crop also feeding the animals. This has made the likes of Brasil to stand tall in agriculture in the world today.”
In advancing farming in the digital way or with technology, Mr. Morrison indicated that tools like drones with sensors have been developed to help farmers thrive. These technological tools are able to detect the water content of the soil, nutrient content, and others that promote smart farming. He reiterated that technological companies must be able to develop such drones with sensors to be able to help farmers and extensively promote digital smart farming.
