Young women in Northern Ghana are being encouraged to take advantage of the increasing opportunities in agriculture to create jobs for themselves and contribute towards addressing graduate unemployment in the country.
As part of the efforts to get more young women into agribusiness, one hundred young women drawn from Northern Ghana, took part in a three-day mentorship programme in Tamale.
The initiative by Kosmos Innovation Centre in collaboration with Mastercard Foundation, sought to build the enterpreneural capacities of the participants.
The three-day women’s Bootcamp provided training from resource persons thriving within the Agri-business sector.
The training programme encouraged knowledge sharing and socialization among the participants with the view to enhance the managerial capabilities of participants.
Addressing the media on the sidelines of the bootcamp, the Executive Director of Kosmos Innovation, Benjamin Gyan-Kesse explained that, participants are expected to put their ideas together, scale up their investment to attract investors.
“Our vision, together with our stakeholders is to empower young people to feel equipped to establish themselves,” he emphasised.
The Tamale women’s bootcamp is the final of a series of bootcamps organised by KIC and Mastercard Foundation this year. Some participants who spoke with GBC news, expressed satisfaction about the initiative saying, they have gained knowledge that will help their businesses.
