The leadership of the Ghana Chamber of Commerce has commended President John Mahama for the Kwahu Business Forum initiative and pledged their support to the President in materialising some of the key decisions of the forum.
The Chamber led by its President, Stephane Miezan, yesterday called on the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, at the Flagstaff House to pledge their collaboration with the President to ensure that his good economic plans for the country are achieved.
“The leadership of the Chamber thought that out of the good works and deeds that the President espoused, we of the Chamber must partner the government to achieve these because we are the umbrella of the business community and we have the membership that can also help the government in partnership to achieve them,” Mr Miezan emphasised.
Mr Miezan said, one of the key pillars of President Mahama’s administration that the Chamber had considered for collaboration was infrastructural development of the country, stressing that for the government to succeed in that sector, the support of the private sector was paramount.
He also identified the 24-hour economy policies of the government as a major economic initiative that, when executed very well, would help balance the economic scale of the country.
Mr Miezan, therefore, pledged the Chamber’s absolute support to partner the government to drive the 24-hour economy policy.
He announced what they termed, “Junior Chambers” in tertiary institutions to drive the spirit of business acumen among young entrepreneurs, stressing that, “the whole idea of the Junior Chamber is to prepare the students to get ready to come into the world to establish business for themselves and create employment for the youth rather than they coming to look for jobs that are naturally not in existence.”
Mr Miezan appealed to the government to support the private sector, particularlly with access to capital from the Exim Bank to enable the sector to live up to expectation since accessing capital from the traditional banks had been daunting.
The Chief of Staff, on behalf of the President, thanked the Chamber and commended them for their quick response, stressing that the proactive gesture from the Chamber was the right sign of the success of the forum.
Mr Debrah also extended the President’s appreciation to captains of industries, state and private institutions, the banking sector, the traditional rulers of Kwahu, groups and individuals for making the Kwahu Business Forum a huge success.
He pledged government’s commitment to work in collaboration with the private sector to reset the economy for an accelerated take-off of Ghana’s economy.
Mr. Debrah called on the private to rally behind the President to make the 24-hour economy policy a reality, and underscored the need for the private sector not to hesitate to approach the government without fear or intimidation.
