The leadership of the Industrial and Commercial Workers’ Union (ICU), Ghana, has urged the executive of the COCOBOD Local Union to work with the management of the company to ensure industrial peace and harmony.
Mr Morgan Ayawine, the General Secretary of ICU, Ghana, said this in Accra during the swearing-in of the executives of the National Consultative Council of COCOBOD Local Union.
Mr Ayawine advised the executives of the National Consultative Council of COCOBOD Local Union to observe the attributes of leadership, which encompassed greater commitment, sacrifice, humility, dedication to duty, fairness and transparency, honesty, probity and accountability.
“While you accept the challenge to lead the workers of COCOBOD at these critical and challenging times of the cocoa industry, you must be guided by the status and importance of COCOBOD as a key player in Ghana’s economy,” he said.
Mr Ayawine urged the executive of the COCOBOD Local Union to be guided by the historical antecedent of the cocoa industry, relating to management and union relationships that had contributed to making cocoa the mainstay of the Ghanaian economy.
“We believe that, with the government and COCOBOD, with the right and systematic policies, we can quickly turn around in the areas of improving the quality, raising the tonnage and reclaiming our enviable position on the market as the world’s leading producer of cocoa, with premium quality,” it said.
Mr Ayawine said the national union believed in working in partnership with COCOBOD management and their teams at divisional and subsidiary levels to address the core issues of productivity and staff welfare, among others.
He assured the new executives of the National Union’s unreserved support to enable them to deliver on their mandate, urging them to consult the national union on matters as may be appropriate.
The new executives of the National Consultative Council (NCC) of COCOBOD Local Union are Mr Eric Tuckson as the Chairman, Mr Frank Abuuro as the Vice Chairman, and Mr Daniel Samari as the Secretary.
Others are Mr Dennis Sarpong, as assistant secretary; Mr Richard Nana A. Kumah as first trustee; and Mr Terry Nii Joy Nelson as the second trustee.
The rest are Mr Bright Fenteng Asomaning, as Executive Member; Ms Ophelia Mensah Dzade, as the Women Representative; and Mr Dennis Kwaku Boamah, as the Youth Representative.
