The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) secretariat has officially launched its podcast platform, aimed at providing authentic information about Africa’s flagship trade agreement to millions across the continent and beyond.
The bi-weekly podcast, unveiled by the secretariat’s communication unit, will feature conversations with trade experts, entrepreneurs, policymakers and Africans benefiting from intra-African trade.
Speaking during the curtain raising edition to pave way for the maiden edition of the podcast which will feature the Secretary-General of the AfCFTA Secretariat, H.E. Wamkele Mene, Ms. Grace Khosa, Head of Communications at the AfCFTA Secretariat said the podcast platform is designed to bridge the information gap as far as the agreement to create a single African market is concerned.
Ms. Grace Khoza noted that there have been several concerns about of the continental public having access to information about the work of the AfCFTA Secretariat as well as regular updates on the state of the implementation of the Continental Trade agreement and believes that the podcast series will go a long way to bring information to the general public and bring clarity to the continental economic integration agenda.
“We want to create an intimate platform where we can be honest as a secretariat about the success, the challenges, and what we see needs to happen,” Ms. Grace Khoza explained.
The Secretary-General, of the AfCFTA Secretariat, His Excellency Wamkele Mene who will be the guest of the maiden to be broadcast on Friday 28th, November 2025 will share insights from his experience as a former negotiator and current head of the institution. He is also expected to highlight why the continental agreement is vital for transforming Africa’s economic future and the opportunities it brings to all Africans particularly women and youth.
The AfCFTA, whose operations commenced in January 2021, aims to create a single continental market for goods and services, with free movement of people, goods and capital.
It is the only programme from the African Union’s Agenda 2063 that has been activated, connecting 1.3 billion people across 55 countries with a combined GDP of approximately $3.4 trillion.
The podcast will be released every two weeks, giving audiences time to engage with the content and provide feedback to shape future episodes.
Episodes will be available on the AfCFTA secretariat’s official platforms and shared with partners of the AfCFTA Secretariat.
