Traders at the Techiman Central Market and drivers at the business central district have hailed the government flagship programmes and policies and called for their swift implementation.
They believe initiatives including Akoko Nkitinkitin, Feed Ghana and the 24-Hour Economy will drive development, create jobs and improve livelihoods.
The traders emphasised that timely implementation of the programmes was crucial for their development, noting that they were human development programmes designed to enhance better living conditions.
They highlighted that the self-reliance-oriented initiatives will create jobs and address unemployment in the country.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Techiman, some traders expressed joy that the Feed Ghana programme would enable farmers to produce quality vegetables, ensuring customer satisfaction and boosting their income.
“The move has come to save us from hardship and other economic crises,” they said.
Mr. Iddirisu Sulemana, a livestock trader, welcomed the initiative, anticipating increased poultry production and job creation for youth.
“More birds such as fowls would be produced to supply the market, providing jobs for the youth,” he said.
University graduate Sandra Musah, who trades in beverages, was eager for the 24-Hour Economy programme to take off, believing it will provide self-employment opportunities.
“I’ve been waiting for this programme to take off so I can engage myself, as I could not get a job in the formal sector,” she said.
Mr. Samuel Apreku, driver of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), was optimistic about the programmes, citing potential job creation and improved livelihoods.
“The 24-Hour Economy programme will create jobs for drivers, as workers will commute to work at night,” he said, urging all to embrace the policies.
The traders and drivers are urging the government to expedite implementation of these programmes, believing they will bring prosperity and economic stability to the region.
