Mr James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, has appealed to the National Broiler Project Directorate to give the Volta Region special consideration under the implementation of the National Broiler Project.
Such a special consideration, the Minister said, would help create more opportunities for the youth in agribusiness.
The appeal was made when the Minister received a delegation from the Presidency under the Special Initiatives Secretariat, specifically the National Broiler Project Directorate, at his office in Ho.
The delegation, led by Mr Kelvin Ocran, was accompanied by executives of Volta Youth in Agriculture headed by Mr Mathias Tulasi.
The visit formed part of preparations toward the rollout of the National Broiler Project in the Volta Region and also enabled the team to inspect poultry facilities secured by the Volta Youth in Agriculture group.
The delegation further engaged stakeholders and briefed the Regional Minister on the objectives of the initiative and its expected impact on youth employment and poultry production.
Mr Kelvin Ocran said the National Broiler Project aimed at increasing local poultry production, strengthening food security and creating sustainable employment opportunities for young people across the country.
He explained that the initiative would support youth participation in commercial poultry farming while promoting value chain development within the agricultural sector.
Mr James Gunu assured the delegation of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council’s commitment and readiness to support the successful implementation of the project in the region.
He stressed the need for the Volta Region to benefit significantly from the initiative considering the region’s agricultural potential and the growing interest among the youth in poultry farming.
Mr Gunu expressed optimism that the initiative would encourage more young people to venture into poultry production and agribusiness as a means of economic empowerment.
“It is our collective hope that this initiative will create meaningful opportunities for many young people across the Volta Region by encouraging and empowering them to venture into poultry production and agribusiness,” he said.
The Regional Minister described agriculture as one of the strongest pathways to youth employment and economic transformation and reiterated the region’s commitment to ensuring the success of the programme.
He assured stakeholders of the Regional Coordinating Council’s willingness to collaborate with all relevant institutions to maximise the benefits of the initiative for the people of the Volta Region.
