The 2nd AgriFood Future organized by Unioncamere and the Chamber of Commerce of Salerno with support from the European Parliament and Italian ministries of Agriculture Food Sovereignty and Forestry, Environment & Energy Security Businesses and Made in Italy, is set to be a key gathering in the global food industry.

To be Held from September 8-10, 2024 in Salerno, Italy, the forum will focus on “Building a Business in the Food System.”

AgriFood Future 2024 is set to bring together over 300 agricultural and technological experts for result-oriented discussions and idea exchanges. It aims to further explore the connection between technological innovation and sustainability can be integrated into modern Agri-food businesses.

One of the most anticipated segments of AgriFood Future 2024 is the panel discussion on the theme “The vital Role of Women and Youth in Agritech and the Future of Works in the Agrifood Sector  ” which will feature Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa, founder of Agrihouse Foundation from Ghana and Marta Sachy, Director at Fondazione Aurora.

The panel discussion will seek to highlight the contributions of women in the agrifood sector while exploring how young professionals envision the future of work in agritech.

Special focus will be given to the technological and social transformations redefining work in this dynamic field. The discussions will aim to unpack new trends, address emerging challenges and opportunities brought about by technological evolution, and understand how these shifts shape the expectations and roles of young professionals in the field.

This session will discover into the vital contributions of women and youth in Agritech, highlighting the transformative impact they can have in reshaping agricultural practices and driving sustainable growth.

Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa, a renowned advocate for women’s empowerment and youth engagement in Ghana’s agricultural sector, will bring her wealth of experience and vision to the panel.

As a leader in promoting innovation, sustainability and capacity building, Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa has led several initiatives that have empowered women and young people to thrive in the agricultural sector.

Under her leadership, the Agrihouse Foundation has spearheaded developmental   projects that support women’s empowerment in agriculture.

These include training programs and mentorship such as the 1Household 1 Garden (1H1H), Agricultural Student’S Career Guidance & Mentorship Dialogue-Bootcamp (AGSTUD).

Among that, initiatives such as the Women in Food and Agricultural Leadership Training Forum (WOFAGRIC) and the Gold in the Soil Awards have directly impacted over 5,000 women farmers, fostering entrepreneurship and leadership skills.

Through these programs, Agrihouse ensures that women and the youth have fair access to resources, knowledge and tools, allowing them to fully participate in the agricultural value chain.

A shining example of the Agrihouse Foundation’s impact is the story of Elizabeth Sevor, a 36-year-old farmer from the Bono region of Ghana. Despite her physical challenges and confidence on a wheelchair, Elizabeth has successfully cultivated a six-acre farm producing plantain, cassava, maize and okro, which won her the ‘The Super Woman Award’ at the 6th Women in Food and Agricultural Leadership Training Forum and Gold in the Soil Awards (WOFAGRIC).

Joining Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa in the discussion is Marta Sachy, the Director at Fondazione Aurora, will also bring her extensive experience and visionary insights to the table.

Known for her dedication to supporting women and youth in agritech and entrepreneurship, Sachy has played a pivotal role in raising general development strategies that empower women and youth.

Marta Sachy’s presentation is expected to highlight the strategic importance of investing in women and youth to achieve meaningful advancements in the Agri-food sector.

Through Fondazione Aurora, she has developed and supported many initiatives that provide training, funding and market access for young entrepreneurs and women in agritech.

An inspiring case is that of a group of young women entrepreneurs in East Africa, who, under Sachy’s guidance, developed an innovative Agri-startup that controls mobile technology to enhance market access for small-scale farmers.

As AgriFood Future 2024 approaches, the participation of Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa and Marta Sachy promises to set new discussions and inspire actionable strategies for enhancing the roles of women and youth in agritech.
