The Chamber of Agribusiness has signed two Memoranda of Understanding agreement (MoU) with the Embassy of Denmark in Accra.
The agreements focus primarily on organising annual agribusiness exhibitions and conferences and promoting vocational and technical training in agribusiness fields.
Addressing attendees at the signing ceremony, the Ambassador of Denmark to Ghana, Tom Noring, highlighted the importance of the partnership. “These MOUs are not just aligned with Denmark’s strengths, they also speak directly to Ghana’s national development priorities,’’ he stated.
He reiterated Denmark’s commitment to helping Ghana develop a resilient and efficient agricultural sector.
Commenting on the partnership, the ambassador noted that the MoUs align with Ghana’s strategic objectives under the 24-Hour Economy initiative as well as Ghana’s broader efforts to boost agricultural production, commercialise it and boost trade.
For his part, the Chief Executive Officer of the Chamber of Agribusiness Ghana, Anthony Morrison, noted that the MoUs will help in the effort to reduce the skill gap in the agricultural sector.
To this effect, he stated that about 50 to 100 students will be selected in the first year to take part in vocational and technical training in Denmark.
The CEO also highlighted that the first International Agro Trade expo expected in November this year will aid in addressing the government’s accelerated export development programme.
A 2021 report by Heifer International indicated that only 5 percent of Ghanaian youths are engaged in agriculture.
