The aftermath of the successful signing of the historic 10-year Ghana–Nebraska Agricultural Cooperation Agreement, former Nebraska State Senators Ken Schilz and Justin Wayne has led to a high-level visit to Ghana to further strengthen the growing partnership between the Republic of Ghana and the State of Nebraska.
The visit marks the next phase in the implementation of the landmark agreement signed between Ghana’s Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA), EcoSyntra LLC, the Ghana-Nebraska Agribusiness Growth and Trade Relations Chamber (GNEBCham), and Agrihouse Foundation. The agreement is designed to modernize Ghana’s livestock sector, enhance food security, attract agribusiness investment, and create sustainable economic opportunities through strategic collaboration between Ghana and Nebraska.
Led by the Co-founder, Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa, during their visit, Senator Ken Schilz, Co-founder of EcoSyntra LLC and GNEBCham, and Senator Justin Wayne engaged with key stakeholders across Ghana’s agricultural and business sectors. Their engagements included meetings with farmer associations, livestock producers, agribusiness leaders, government institutions, development partners, investors, and private sector organizations to explore practical opportunities for implementing the partnership.
A key highlight of the visit was the presentation of a policy proposal to establish a modern livestock processing plant in Ghana. The proposed facility is expected to play a transformative role in strengthening Ghana’s livestock value chain by improving processing capacity, enhancing product quality and safety standards, reducing post-harvest losses, creating jobs, and increasing the competitiveness of locally produced livestock products in both domestic and international markets
The senators held strategic discussions with stakeholders across the livestock industry, including the Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture and other key government officials. These engagements focused on identifying collaborative approaches to advancing livestock sector development, attracting investment, facilitating technology transfer, and building sustainable systems that will support Ghana’s long-term agricultural growth agenda.
Former Nebraska State Senator Ken Schilz has reiterated the chamber’s efforts to strengthen Ghana’s livestock industry through the integration of technology and other opportunities that would contribute effectively and positively to the Ghanaian economy. He expect positive action upon their visit to engaging key stakeholders across the livestock and agribusiness sectors to advance the implementation of the historic 10-year Ghana–Nebraska Agricultural Cooperation Agreement.
Sharing his remarks, Senator Justin Wayne underscored their strategic visit as one that demonstrates the shared commitment of Ghana and Nebraska to fostering innovation, strengthening agribusiness partnerships, and delivering practical solutions that promote food security, economic growth, and sustainable development for both partners.
The Co-founder of the Ghana – Nebraska Agribusiness Growth and Trade Relations Chamber – GNEBcham , Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa therefore reinforced how the partnership is already moving from vision to action as the initial move takes off upon the visit of the two delegates. She stated that the Senators visit to Ghana is a follow-up and engagement with key stakeholders across the livestock and agribusiness sectors to advance the implementation of the historic 10-year Ghana–Nebraska Agricultural Cooperation Agreement.
She emphasized that the initiatial step of establishing livestock processing production house is a positive action which can be fused into government’s Nkokor Nkitinkiti project to create a vibrant industry.
The Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, Hon. John Dumelo said, the move is in the right direction as government and Ghana as a whole seeks to modernize and strengthen its agricultural sector including the livestock value chain. As such, such investments into the sector are essential for its development and opportunities for Ghanaians.
